I don't really remember being that interested in photography when I was growing up, I guess I've always been more inclined into film making.
When I first got my first digital camera though, my views had changed completely. I was surprised how much more control you can have when working with still images.
I always thought that to produce a decent photo you need to own an expensive camera and a professional studio lighting setup, but I was SO wrong about that one.. While browsing galleries on flickr and deviantart I was surprised to see how you can do so much with so little..
By the time I started taking my first pics, I had photoshop basics figured out, but I had absolutely no knowledge about image processing. That's why my first photos look like utter crap, as I had no idea what I was doing.
I do try to not overedit my images, I think the best retouching is when you can't tell it's been retouched, but of course, since my photos are far from perfect when it comes to things like lighting and my main model, alot of post-processing work goes into them, so often originals look nothing like the final result.
I know it seems like it, but I don't always shoot just myself, in fact most of the photos I took last year weren't pics of me. Why don't I share them here, that's the question I'm not gonna answer though:P
I think it would be nice to have photography as a 'backup plan', that's why I want to learn as much as I can about it now. But I do think that once you start doing something professionally, it takes away some fun from it and affects your work not always in a positive way. That's why for now I prefer to keep it fun and casual:)
